India – A Crazy Country
India – Fun living in it !!
India is a crazy country and being an Indian is the craziest
feeling. Surviving in the largest democracy of the world with thousands of
different religious groups that have evolved in India since 1500 BCE is like
running a lifelong marathon with so many views. In India you always have
to consider the other religions sentiments before saying or doing anything because
of the consequences. I am not talking of legal consequences, which is fine, but
it is the civic consequences. Everybody in India acts as a moral police and if
you think this is normal then sit back and read because even the Indian
administration and few non-political parties do moral policing in the name of god,
religion and our ancient history.
I am writing this because recently Mumbai Police filed a
complaint against “AIB–Roast” for using abusive language on National TV. I
watched the entire show and I liked the fact that it was abusive and funny in-spite
of extreme over-acting by Ranveer Singh and Arjun Kapoor. The essence of the
show is humiliating the celebrity guest, abusing the shit out of them and giving the
audience a good time and it is inspired by ROAST which runs in many countries.
I wasn’t harmed by watching AIB Roast, my religious sentiments
weren't hurt, I don’t think that it had anything to do with our cultural
identity so why was there a complaint filed?
Apparently “Brahman Ekta Seva Sanstha” and a few other “Self-proclaimed
savior of Indian Beliefs” didn't like it and took legal actions. Such is their
hypocrisy, as if they have never used foul language and have never laughed at
dirty jokes and on behalf of all the Indians filed a complaint. If you don’t
want to watch then why are you stopping others to watch? Karan Johar tweeted – “Not your cup of tea, don't drink it!!!” These
goons abuse people openly in front of so many kids and families and if someone
does that on TV they find it abusive. Hypocrites, that show is not meant for kids!!
Now the questions that lies here, is it harming our
sentiments, is it against our religions, is it against our society, is it
against our ancient teachings, will it make us pro-western and kill our
religions? I mean, we have given the world Kamasutra and the irony is that couples in India can’t
kiss each other openly. Every Valentine’s Day couple are beaten if they are
seen holding hands, leave aside kissing. Who gives these non-political and
radical groups the right to stop us from what we want to do? These radicals
will watch porn, adult Indian movies in theaters and Hollywood movies but will
create fuss, riots and destroy theaters if there’s an “A” grade Indian movie with
a few sex scenes and lip locks. These Indian movies are meant for people who
are 18 above and carry an “A” certificate, so why do you stop us from watching
it?
Believe me; I watch Hollywood movies more than our Indian
movies, because they are the best when it comes to cinema. I watch American TV
and don’t even bother to watch Indian TV apart from a couple of good Indian series’. That
does not Americanize or westernize me. I still believe in my Indian roots and
understand what good and what’s bad. I think, by us following western culture
makes these radicals go crazy because they live in a fear of identity. I think
that they think, we might lose our roots and become all western and forget all
about our culture. AM I right? Or do they do it just for publicity? I believe
my parents and teachers have always taught me what’s right and wrong in our
culture and believe that every parent in India does, so no one gives them the
right to school us.
Recently a couple was beaten black and blue by 5 goons in
Latur, Maharastra. Their crime was, they were spending time with each other in
the outskirts and the irony was they beat that poor girl more than they did
that guy. I mean if roaming in open, holding hands and hugging each other is a crime
in our culture then beating a female is insanely pathetic. These goons didn't even
think once and didn't show a slight bit of remorse after they were interviewed
in a local jail, instead they were proud and said will do this again if they
catch someone demeaning our culture. It gives me immense agony when I hear and
see such things and imagine what would make a person do such things. I mean,
where is the crime in this? Were these radicals born of photosynthesis? And how
is it demeaning our culture? We have given the world the aura of Kamasutra, we are
the second largest population in the world, we taught the world religious tolerance
and just by such petty issues our culture will not lose its identity.
To end, I wish to say every country has its own problems
and India is no winner living with various problems. I am a patriot and will be
a patriot till I die and no matter how much I follow western culture, wear
western clothes, see Hollywood movies, kiss my girlfriend in public etc. etc.
etc. I believe and I hope that the generation after me will live with an open
mind and India will become a secular power. I pledge to teach my kids, Indian
culture and how to keep an open mind.
JAI HIND !!
