How can you hate a particular genre in music ?
I had to write about music, as; it has always
been my passion. Specially Metal!! \../
I still
remember my teenage years - In 1990’s where we used Cassette’s, Walkman’s,
Radio’s etc. to listen to music.
Gone are the days
where we used to find it difficult to search for a song or fast forward/rewind
a particular song and waste time to listen to it again. Today, we have the
luxury of the Internet and browse through billions of songs worldwide and
download/buy them easily and keep listening to your favorite song choices again
and again without the wait time.
Here comes the main
reason why I am compelled to compose this article.
I have always been
a fan of different kinds of Indian music from various
regions/states of our country. Never did I hate a particular regional music or
a particular song. I still take pleasure and enjoy listening to Gujarati, Goan,
Bihari, Haryanvi and Rajasthani music and for the matter of fact international
music as well from Iran, Africa, and Spain. It is because of my passion towards
music that I created a group on Facebook that is in support of Anti Piracy and
it has over 500 Indian songs that are copied from various other international
songs. FB Link: Chor Bollywood
It was in 2006 when I was forcefully made to
listen Rock/Metal. It was “forcefully” because I was traveling with 4 Metal
Fans in a car and the journey was around 8 hours (I guess you got my point
here). We were headed to Alibagh and this was my first visit there and since I
was the only one who was visiting Alibagh for the first time, my choice of Music
was not played even once in that journey. I think of it today and consider
myself lucky and thank my friends for introducing me to a different world of music.
It was Serge’s voice, Slipknots arrogance, Iron Maiden’s melody, Metallica’s
guitar work, that opened up my ear and made me head bang – trust me that was spontaneous,
not knowing what head banging is!!!
I still remember the first song that I heard and
got glued to and enjoy it even today – “System of a Down ATWA”. This song and
the entire playlist that my friends played during that journey made me a True
Metal Fan since then. Anyone who has heard System of a Down knows what Serge is all about. His voice and
lyrics are so deep and intense that it has become an instrument of its own. System of a Down
I’ve always
come across people who are so glued to a particular genre that they wouldn’t
even give a listen to another kind of music and straight away hate the other
genre and/or spread wrong information about it. This
kind of thing always happens with someone who hates Metal. They either lack
taste or aren’t that passionate about music. One shouldn’t hate something without
trying it and even after trying it, hatred is not what that thing deserves. You
may “not like” it but you should have the courage of appreciating the hard work
that goes in to it. The worst comment that I ever heard about Metal was, that “It
doesn’t have melody and soul, it’s heavy and makes no sense.” – How
harsh and rude that is!!! Immense hard work goes into making a band and making
a song. If someone thinks there isn’t any melody or soul in a Heavy/Dark metal
song then I suggest “there isn’t any scope for Melody or Soul in your ear”.
There are ways to develop your interest in
metal:
Do you
recommend immersing yourself into Metal — like I did? Find someone passionate
about Metal and say “hook me up’?
1.
Start from soft rock and gradually move upwards
2.
Try and listen to different kind of bands –
don’t just listen to few bands and stop there
3.
Beer always goes with Metal – so you know what I
am saying!!! \../
4.
Listen to other genres as well like Rap, Hip
Hop, Electronic, Classical etc. This would make you understand the real essence
of music.
5.
Buy a ticket for a Live rock show and feel the
magic.
6. Movies that yo may watch - "Metal - A Headbangers Journey" and "Flight 666 - Iron Maiden" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metal:_A_Headbanger%27s_Journey
Keep Rocking. ROCK IS NOT DEAD \../
